In September of 2013 it will be the 20th anniversary of In Utero by Nirvana. Our goal here is to put together an album of covers in tribute to this wonderful piece of art.Would like to contribute your interpretation of a song from the album? We are expect to get a lot of submissions for this project so turn in your best work to ensure your track should make the cut. Submissions will be accepted from anyone who loves the music and wants to create something special for this project. We are very hopeful to see this idea reach out as far and wide as possible to insure good music as well as have the best chance for completion.

First off, I'd love to say thank you for doing this. This is my favorite album, and It's an amazing way to celebrate the 20th anniversary. That being said, I'm somewhat curious about details such as: the process through which tracks are being judged for inclusion in the album, the format(s) it will be released in, what individuals / companies are involved in production and distribution, a deadline for submissions, the date of release.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things I am most curious about is the type of material you are looking for. Being a fan, I would love to see some down and dirty grunge tracks, but at the same time ukelele covers sound totally awesome too. I am interested in contributing any way that I can, whether that be submitting tracks, which I plan on doing, or assisting in any other part of the process.

Thank you for your interest and concerns with the project Bradley. I will be doing a FAQ soon but until then I will attempt to answer your questions here. We are looking at a June 30th deadline to submit tracks and the release date will be September 13, 2013 which is 20 years to the date In Utero was released.
DeleteThis is a strictly non-profit grassroots effort where artists will freely give their efforts to the project to tribute this great album and in the process hopefully some new emerging artists will get a chance to be heard. Distribution will be done in several digital ways. Through places like Soundcloud, bandcamp, and torrents.
Once all of the tracks have been submitted there will be a weekly voting process where all of tracks will be put up to be voted upon. For example, the first week we will take all of the "Serve The Servants" submissions and place them online for streaming for one week where people can then vote on the one they like the best. While this is just the preliminary thought about how the tracks will be chosen if a new and better way is thought of we can always go with that.
